i just saw these and wanted to see if anyone has used or heard anything about them.

http://www.gaspods.com/

GasPods improve the aerodynamic efficiency of vehicles to reduce fuel consumption, which saves money and, for every gallon of gas saved, 19.4 lbs of CO2 are prevented from entering the atmosphere, and approximately 97 gallons of water are left unpolluted.

GasPods are easy to install on any vehicle. Magnetic models can be as easily removed.

Field testers' results exceed the 5% savings predicted by computational aerodynamic performance tests.

i saw CLAIMS of a 5% increase in MPG. new snake oil???

On the 'Research' page, it states

"This translates into an improvement in fuel consumption for the test vehicle of just under 1.3 mpg, or an extra 18 miles for its 14.5 gallon tank."

And this isn't in real-world field testing, or even in a wind tunnel, but a theoretical computer model.
IMO, and YMMV, unless you did a side-by-side comparison of identical cars, in an identical environment, with identical drivers, over a *long* period of time, you can never attribute this small of a gain to any one specific thing. Different temperatures, and you name it, can make your MPG fluctuate more than that.

I call BS on this one, plus it looks ricey as hell.

They're just aerodynamic canards. They work best for high speed applications like racing. Mopar started using them on some show cars back in the late 50s and early 60s, and they do, in fact, work. Of course they're also on stunt planes for better control.

The only real issue in the pics is their location: they need to be in the foreplane (front lateral half) of the vehicle... not the upper rear. Use on the front or rear undercarriage, or on the front sides for downward stabilization and equilibrium.

Regards!

these have been better tested and are a better design...

they definitely do help to reduce drag but you'll need to do wool-tuft-testing and whatnot to see where to put them for the best effect:

These are like dimples on golf balls. It kind'a makes me wonder if a dirty car is faster than a clean car. Shocked

You would probably see a bigger improvement with speed holes

Mythbusters did it! (golf ball dimpled a car to see if it would help)

They must have been reading my mind. I wondered about this years ago. I can see a real world application for this right now in NASCAR racing. Except with 1/8" to 3/16" dimples, not the tennis ball size divots.

Mythbusters did a dimpled car and it works. I guess if I had bad acne that gave me a creator face I would get a car to match.
